::New Players Guide/[F.A.Q]::
Hello, welcome to the Soul Brawlers RP forum. If you're new to the board, or new to Rping then this simple guide is designed to help you settle down and get into RPing here at Soul Brawlers. The guide itself will work with a simple layout, in the style of a Q&A (Question and Answer) session, to which this guide could also be referred to as an F.A.Q of sorts.
[Q]I'm new to the board, I have no idea what to do.
First off, welcome to the board. The first thing you'll need to do here is create an account. To do this you can follow these simple steps;
- Click the "Sign Up" button at the very top of the webpage, this will take you to the account registration page which will allow you to create your own account on the forum. Follow the simple step by step guide there to help you complete the registration form.
- Read the activation email sent to your specified email account and complete the steps there.
- Sign in using your new account.
[Q]I have my account, now what do I do?
Congratulations on making your account, and thank you for joining us here at Soul Brawlers. Your first port of call will be the rules thread within the Rules and Instructions section, otherwise found here.
Once you've read up on everything in the Rules thread, your next step is to create your roleplaying character. To do this you need to head to the "Brawler Directory" section of the board, and read the thread titled "Character Sheet Layout." Once this is done, copy and the information within the quote box and return to the Brawler directory section itself, located here. From here, click on the "Create thread" button, to which you will be taken to the thread creation page.
Name the subject of the thread with your desired characters name, then paste the copied text into the message box. All you need to do here is remove the already written information from each subheading and fill in your own information as necessary, once done click on the post message button.
Done? Great, you're one step closer to being able to RP.
[Q]If I've created my character sheet, what's next?
Since this is a roleplay board based on fighting, the one thing you're going to need is stats. You need these along side your character sheet before you an actually RP, so what you need to do is head over to the rules thread again and read up on Statistics page. Once that's done, copy the 5 stats into your signature by heading over to "User CP" located at the top of the page, then by clicking "Modify Profile." Here you simply need to paste the stats in and add the remaining 45 exp into your stats as you see fit.
Done? Great, you can finally start Roleplaying, however there is one thing that you probably want to do, and that's introduce yourself to us.
[Q]Introduce myself? Why do I need to do this, and how?
Introducing yourself to the board is more polite than just jumping on and getting into things, it lets us get to know you better and lets you become a part of our community, unless you don't like making threads. To do this, all you need to do is head on over to the Incoming and Departures section and make a new thread introducing yourself. Don't worry, you don't need to divulge your life story to us or anything, just a simple "Hi" will do just fine.
[Q]Is there a limit to how many posts I can join?
No, you can join as many threads as you feel comfortable with, so long as they're open to posting.
[Q]Open to Posting? What does this mean.
It is the thread creators choice of whether he or she wants his/her thread to be open or closed. If you see, for example (insert character name here) or (closed) then you cannot join that thread unless you are the person stated within the brackets, obviously.
[Q]I want to request a fight or an RP thread, how can I do this?
There are two ways to do this really. You can either PM a member, or you can post a request thread here, in the challenges and requests section.
[Q]PM? What is this and how can I PM someone?
"PM" is an abbrevation of "Private Message." To put it simply, it is a sort of email unique to the forum, which allows you to send and sent and receive messages to and from other members. To send a PM, all you need to do is head to the top of the page and click on the link that says "You currently have 0 messages." From there you can click "New Message," then by inputting the reciepants username (Not screen name) into the "To" box, then type your message as if you were creating a thread and finally click on "Send private message." If you happen to have a message, you can view them by following the same process of clicking the link at the top of the page.
As well as this, you may also send a PM in another way. This can be done by clicking on any members account. Now, to the left hand side of the member's account, in their mini profile you will see a small icon that looks like a miniature A4 piece of paper, in front of a black folder. Clicking on this will allow you to send a PM to that member.
[Q]Somebody has accused me of Godmodding, what should I do?
Stop posting immediately in that thread and calmly and politely PM that member. If you cannot resolve the situation, report the event to a member of staff, namely myself in order for it to be reviewed and judged. Only restart Rping in that thread when a member of staff has told you it is okay to do so.
[Q]Somebody is Godmodding or metagaming against me, help?
As stated in the above answer, report the situation to myself or another member of staff and stop roleplaying in that thread until the situation has been resolved and a staff member has allowed you to continue.
[Q]What is an NPC
"NPC" stands for "Non-Playable Character," these are characters which you can control to push a story or your thread forward, as well as having many other uses. As stated in the rules however, you may only control your own NPC's, unless permission is given by another player for you to control theirs.
[Q]What is fighting for?
|As stated in the rules, fighting is the main point of this forum. Fighting allows you to gain exp, which you can use to upgrade your stats.
[Q]Can I gain EXP from fighting NPC's?
No, this would be cheating. You can only gain EXP from other member characters.
[Q]What is money for?
You gain money for each IC post you make. Building up your money allows you to purchase items from the item shops.
[Q]What are Items for?
Items allow you to upgrade your stats in a larger scale to just Exp. As well, any item boost only occur when an item is held in your possession and equipped. Item boosts are nor permanant like Exp.
[Q]How do I get an item.
You can obtain an item, either by purchasing one at the item shops by using your money, or by receiving one from other members.
[Q]What is a Quest?
A Quest is a special event, run by the staff members for the benefit and entertainment of the members. Participating in a quest and completing one successfully will allow you certain rewards, such as EXP and items.
[Q]What kind of rewards can I gain from a quest, and how many?
Usually, the reward depends on the quest itself. The bigger quests can earn you anything up to 5 EXP and an item, where as some may earn you Exp and a little money. It depends entirely on the quest.
[Q]How do I join a quest, and when will there be a quest?
At the moment, there aren't any quests as the system is not yet in place. A quest will take place once the board sets off, and a sign up sheet will be placed in the OOC section of the board. Don't worry, you'll have perfect chance to participate in one.
[Q]So, I'm getting to grips with Rping here, but I just don't get certain things about the IC Soul Brawlers World.
This is expected at first, so to help you understand certain aspects, we have created the Soul Encyclopedia. This thread is designed to tell you about everything from what a "Soul" is to the physics used within the world of Soul Brawlers. Keep checking back to the Encyclopedia thread, as it is updated regularly.
